I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Ganesaratnam. Please accept our condolences. The community has lost a great surgeon and I have lost one of my best and great friends. I went to bed last night with a heavy heart and woke up at 4.30 a.m (SL 1.30 p m ) to the sound of door bell but no one was at the door !. I realized this is the funeral time.

I am extremely sad that my lifelong friend Dr. Ganesharatnam has passed away. We are from the same village Ariyalai and our ancestors homes were in the outer court yards of Sithivinayagar Pillaiyar Temple. Our fathers who friends from their childhood, worked in the Post and Telecom Dept and while living in Colombo they continued their friendship. We were born during the same period, went the Royal Primary and the College and attended the same class. With the anti Tamil riots in 1958, we moved to Jaffna and attended St John’s College. We, group of friends motivated each other to do well in life and Ganesh played a pivotal role and 20+ friends from Ariyalai entered University that year. Ganesh and I attended Medical and Engineering Faculties respectively in Peradeniya during the same period. He became very dedicated surgeon and his passion to serve the people took priority. He was a champion for poor people and did surgeries without charging money. The last but not the least he built a wedding hall and wanted it to be given free. In spite of his busy schedule, we met few times and had lunch and dinner. On 11th Sept 2017 His wife Nirmala invited us to spend some time with him and we are very grateful. May god help her and the children, grand children to get over this difficult period. He may have left us physically but will be in the hearts and minds of thousands of people who benefitted by his dedicated service. Rest In Peace Ganesh.

I am very sad that we have missed a person who liked Ariyalai very much. He built first wedding hall in Ariyalai and let free for Ariyalaian whether it is for wedding or Siththivinayagar temple use or foor Ariyalai National Day drama rehersal. We vey much miss him who was elected as the President of Ariyalai Centenary National Day Celebration to be held in 2019. At the invitation of Tamil Association of Brent Dr Ganesaratnam gave a talk on health and appreciated the knack of Ariyalaiyans in organising events even in London. May Lord Siththivinayagr bless his atma to rest in peace.
