I knew Shanmugalingam Brodie very well. They lived close to our house in Chundukuli and they were our family friends. His brother Panchalingam Brodie was senior student at St Johns College and was in the University during my time. We spent a lot of time together.
Whenever we go to Jaffna I have to pass Shanmugalingam Brodie's house to go to Thappal Kattai santhi Market via AV Road. Always, I met him at his house or on the road. We spoke a lot and was looking forward for future meeting that made our Jaffna trip enjoyable. It is very sad that he is no longer with us. My heartfelt condolences to his brother, sister, relatives and friends.

Mr Shanmugalingam Brodie is the BIL of late Mrs Rajaledchumy Cumarasamy, who is my MIL. When ever I visit Ariyalai he advice me that Ariyalai is a nice place to live and whoever go abroad should come back and live in Ariyalai and I appreciate his view. He was a sports teacher at St Thomas College, Mt Lavania and a great tennis player and tennis coach, who devoted his life to Tennis upto his 70s. He was a special guest on the 92nd Ariyalai National Day celebration in 2011. I miss him a lot. My deepest sympathy to his close family members and friends.

I knew Shanmugalingam Brodie from the age of ten when I was living at Kachcheri Nallur road in Chundikuli. Brodie comes home almost every day to play softball cricket or paddle tennis in my garden with four of my brothers and few others from our neighbourhood. He was an excellent tennis player and once i had the privilege of partnering him in the North Ceylon Tennis Tournament where he won the "singles" title that year. I last met him in Wellawatte during my visit from Australia in year 2000. It was a joy meeting Brodie, and talk about our good old days. When I was in Colombo we used to meet regularly as he was living close to my uncle's house in Wellawatte. I was so sorry that he is no more and I was longing to see him during my next visit to Jaffna. Our deepest sympathies to all his loved ones and friends.
